Summary
A National Integrity System (NIS) assessment was conducted by Transparency International BiH (TI BiH). The purpose of the NIS assessment was to provide a detailed evidence-based analysis of the national integrity system in the country, sector by sector (legislative branch, executive branch, judiciary, anti-corruption agency, media…).
Results
• Researchers have collected data, conducted interviews and field tests – it is mainly a consultative approach, meaning that public institutions were involved throughout the process. Frequent meetings with representatives of BiH institutions at all levels were held. • The assessment process culminated in the National Integrity Workshop, where the preliminary findings were discussed among key institutions' representatives who provided input and comments to the draft report. The NIS assessment was officially presented on the occasion of the International Anticorruption Day on December 7, 2012 at the State Parliament. The full report can be found here: http://www.transparency.org/whatwedo/nis. • Two focus groups composed of representatives of State and non-state institutions were set up. Their task was to develop recommendations to improve the NIS. • Two policy papers on the top recommendations from the NIS assessment were developed and made available on TI BiH's website (http://www.ti-bih.org/). • Overall, this Project was implemented successfully and contributed to improving standards of governance and levels of transparency and reducing corruption.
