The European Union funds are helping the reconstruction/construction of the water and waste water infrastructure which will make water cleaner and healthier for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The European Union has developed high standards for water management and environmental protection and seeks to see this same policy developed in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in any other country aspiring to join the EU. High standards in the water sector also mean well-functioning water and sanitation infrastructure.

Investments in the water and sanitation infrastructure will help Bosnia and Herzegovina to improve the quality of its surface waters and reduce the pollution of drinking water sources. These measures will reduce the exposure of downstream communities to polluted surface water and improve environmental conditions. The water and wastewater treatment plants and the other water facilities once rehabilitated and constructed, will also have a positive impact on the environment and improve health and quality of life of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
