Reinforcement of Local Democracy (LOD) is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) BiH in partnership with municipalities and civil society organizations (CSOs), the FBiH and RS Associations of municipalities and cities, in close coordination with the Directorate for European Integration (DEI). The aim of the project is to contribute to democratic stabilization, reconciliation and further development of BiH. The contribution will be made through support to selected municipalities for establishing improved local authority/civil society relations and facilitating financing mechanisms for improved service delivery. In order to address the present challenges, LOD efforts will focus on: - Facilitating permanent partnerships between CSOs and local authorities by building awareness of mutual beneficial cooperation and encouraging sustainable dialogue; - Creating and adopting a unified and transparent mechanism for disbursing funds to CSOs, based on the project approach, local social service needs and identified priorities, and ensuring a sustainable source of funding through a municipal budget line for financing CSO projects; - Encouraging CSOs to specialize and professionalise their activities by adopting a longer-term planning perspective, becoming more responsive to local needs and less dependent on current donor priorities.

- 43 municipalities participated in LOD - over 220 small scale CSO projects implemented - more than 60,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries - over 3.5 million EUR allocated to CSOs through LOD, out of which 0.5 million EUR came from municipal budgets.
