The project is part of the 5.2 million EUR worth IPA 2011 grant support to the local economic development in BiH which stimulates growth and jobs creation through the enhanced local partnerships and provision of business infrastructure and services. Specifically, the project should improve competitiveness and innovativeness of the BiH wood processing and joinery SMEs by introducing the EU standards that will contribute to the energy efficiency and environmental protection in this sector. This project is a continuation of the past IPA 2008 assistance provided by "MENTOR I" which supported establishment of Furniture Testing Laboratory (LIND) in Zenica Business Zone. The follow up assistance to the quality infrastructure will provide a further specialisation of LIND laboratory for the testing of final joinery products in accordance with General Product Safety Directive (GPSD) 2001/95/EC and new legislative framework (NLF). As a result, at least 20 SMEs are expected to introduce the standards required for export of their products. Importantly, increased export and production should create some 50 new jobs in the wood processing/joinery sector by the end of the project. The project will also establish a so called “Impulse Technology Centre” at Technology Park Zenica which will be equipped with ICT for innovation and knowledge transfer in wood processing.
