SUMMARY

In the field of fighting corruption the EU supported the development of a policy and institutional framework including an Anti-corruption Strategy and Action Plan as well as the Law on the establishment of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and Coordination in the fight against corruption. While repression of corruption is supported through projects in the area of law enforcement, the EU also strengthens capacities to address prevention of corruption in cooperation with the Agency for Prevention of corruption and Coordination of the fight against corruption and anti-corruption bodies at different administrative levels. Furthermore, the EU encourages NGO action in the fight against corruption.

RESULTS

Results of the projects carried out by NGOs were achieved in reducing corruption at universities, strengthening the media and raising public awareness, addressing corruption in the private sector through capacity building of SMEs and entrepreneurship development and developing a watch dog function in the public procurement. The EU project also funded a National Integrity System Assessment and one project aiming at building capacities among CSOs to monitor corruption and protect integrity.
