SUMMARY

The EU supports the law enforcement agencies in BiH in their efforts to improve their capacities and capabilities towards a more effective fight against organized crime, terrorism and corruption and to prepare them to work in line with the EU acquis. The projects follow a multi-level, multi-stakeholder approach, advising both national and entity-specific actors to deepen reforms in the area of home affairs. Advisory services address technical and administrative capacities of police agencies and related institutions at all administrative levels. The EU also supports the police agencies to strengthen their communication and IT infrastructure.

RESULTS

Results were achieved in different areas ranging from border control to seizure of stolen goods. The country's capabilities for fighting organised crime and corruption were reinforced by strengthening police and justice cooperation. A threat assessment has been prepared to combat organised crime, in line with the Europol methodology, based on a new level of intelligence-sharing among law-enforcement agencies. A pool of experts has been created to identify threats and to advise senior police ranks on appropriate decisions and trainings in the fight against organized crime and corruption in particularly on the use of special investigative measures were delivered. Collaboration has also led to the recovery of high-value vehicles that had been stolen including in the EU. The EU assistance has promoted more effective use of expertise, making it possible to set clear priorities for the fight against organised and serious crime and to implement the seizure of illegally gained assets. Furthermore investigation capacities were strengthened, a road-map for personal data protection was developed and the foundation for future cooperation with the European Police College CEPOL was prepared.
